The °®åú´«Ã½, Department of Public Safety (MUSC DPS) Seeks to Maintain CALEA Accreditation and Continue Goals of Continuous Improvement in the Agency

Charleston, SC, June 27, 2025 — The Department of Public Safety at the °®åú´«Ã½ (MUSC DPS) is preparing for a site-based assessment by The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), which will occur from July 7th to 10th, 2025.

Having received initial accreditation in 1999, MUSC DPS is committed to maintaining its accreditation status with CALEA. This rigorous process is designed to provide the department with essential guidance to facilitate continuous improvement and to align its operational practices with recognized national standards in law enforcement.

As part of the accreditation process, members of the public are encouraged to submit comments, commendations, and feedback regarding the quality of services provided by MUSC DPS in accordance with CALEA standards and its overall candidacy for accreditation. .

It should be noted that CALEA is not an investigative body; therefore, the public portal is not intended for the submission of information related to investigations. Comments will be assessed based on their relevance to compliance with CALEA accreditation standards. Feedback submitted will be directed to CALEA through the Public Comments Portal.
