Aging infrastructure, urbanization and a demand for greener but still reliable electricity have boosted recent and future transmission and distribution development. Kiewit’s multi-disciplined engineering and construction teams bring comprehensive expertise to meet the challenges associated with the market’s changes and substantial growth.

Through our expertise and experience, ýhas successfully completed projects of varying sizes and complexity, ranging from single breaker replacements within a substation to large capital improvement projects with bundled transmission, substation and distribution work scopes. We offer a full array of services to the power delivery market, including engineering and design, construction, project and program management, NERC reliability and compliance and UAV inspections and surveys. We have the flexibility to provide these services through traditional contract models, as well as alternative models such as ECI, EPCM, progressive design-build, CMAR, and both closed-book and open-book EPC.

Transmission and Distribution


ýhas completed overhead projects ranging from 69kV to 500kV, including engineering and installing access and civil work, foundations, structures, and wire stringing. On underground projects from 69kV to 345kV, our crews perform site preparation and restoration, duct bank construction, trenchless crossings, cable pulling and splice vaults.


From high-traffic urban spaces to suburban residential areas, we offer customized overhead and underground distribution solutions up to 14.4kV. Kiewit’s experts are knowledgeable in all aspects of distribution line construction, including the challenges presented by distributed generation and the associated need for increased maintenance. Our construction services include pole erection or replacement and installation of pole line hardware, wire installation, transformers and switches.

Underground and Submarine

Offshore renewable generation installations, cross-border links and remote area connections have increased demand for underground and submarine cables (USC). Advances in cable technology have enabled USC projects that cover longer distances, are laid at greater depths and are increasingly complex. ýhas experience with both high voltage alternating current (HVAC) and high voltage direct current (HVDC) technology.


Whether brownfield or greenfield, ýperforms all phases of substation project development and execution. Our experience includes alternating current, direct current and air-and gas-insulated substations. From 4kV to 500kV, we perform access and civil work, foundation installation, structure erection, and buss, switch and major equipment installation.
